EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Future Infrastructure and Built Environment

The EPSRC Future Infrastructure and Built Environment CDT's research and training focuses on integrating Cambridge's internationally recognised strength in structures, geotechnics, materials, construction, sustainable development, building physics and water and waste within the wider context of related engineering disciplines, architecture, the sciences, land economy, manufacturing, business, economics, policy and social science.

Research Themes and Projects Overview

Choose one of the following options to specify potential research projects on the GAPP application form:

a)   Select up to max. 3 research projects from the Research Themes below that are of interest to you and list them on the GAPP application form under Section Research Summary on the application form.

b)   Develop your own research project(s) and include a summary of your proposed project(s) (~200-250 words) in the GAPP application form.

** Please note FIBE-CDT provides no guarantee of either the research topic or a particular supervisor.

The key research themes, along with potential research topics are listed below. Please click on the relevant theme to see detailed research projects. Students will decide upon their PhD topic during the first year of the MRes+PhD course where there will be plenty of opportunities to discuss and develop a mutually interesting topic with potential Civil Engineering PhD supervisors as listed in the People pages.
