Pecha Kucha - JuanCH

Industry Day 2016 showcased an insight into the MRes year and future research collaborations with industry partners followed by student MRes presentations, done Pecha Kucha style.

The FIBE-CDT hosted Industry Day 2016 with attendance from industry partners, Civil Engineering academics and students. The morning included presentations by Course Leader Dr Niamh Gibbons and Course Director Dr Rod Lynch on the FIBE-CDT MRes course. There was a lively exchange of ideas among the industry partners who were keen to be involved on future research collaboration.

After the lunch buffet, each Cohort 2 student conducted a Pecha Kucha style presentation which was assessed as part of their MRes thesis. Each had to present 20 slides with 20 seconds per slide followed by a short question and answer session from the audience afterwards. The presentations were fast-pace, concise and the audience was taken on a journey of each student’s project through dynamic, relevant images. The enthusiastic questions after each presentation was proof that the audience found the presentations both engaging and stimulating.

Industry Day not only provided valuable feedback for the students for continuing on to their PhD projects, it also promoted synergy between the industry partners and FIBE-CDT in terms of opportunities for future research collaboration.  All in all, it was a huge success.
