EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Future Infrastructure and Built Environment

Welcome to Dr Niamh Gibbons, new Course Leader of FIBE-CDT.

New Course Leader Dr Niamh Gibbons joins FIBE-CDT

Dr. Niamh Gibbons is the MRes Course Leader for the Centre for Doctoral Training in Future Infrastructure and Built Environment. Her research interests are in fibre optic strain monitoring of civil engineering infrastructure, the dynamic behaviour of railway bridges, nonlinear finite element analysis, time-dependent effects of prestressed concrete structures and the assessment of masonry arch bridges. Her current research is focused on the development of structural elements with embedded sensing capabilities and the application of fibre optic monitoring techniques to railway bridges in order to monitor the structural response during both construction and under live loads. Niamh studied Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering at Trinity College Dublin for her bachelor's and master's degrees and at University College Dublin for her PhD degree. Prior to joining the FIBE CDT, she worked at the Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction at the University of Cambridge and in engineering consultancies in Dublin and Edinburgh. Niamh is also a College Research Associate at Clare College Cambridge.
