EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Future Infrastructure and Built Environment

One of our students, Bryn Pickering, attended the Realise event for children in care at the end of October as a CAMbassador.

CAMbassadors are Cambridge undergraduates who work on the University's central access and outreach events, such as Summer Schools and day events.

"The Realise events are aimed at young people in care. This event aimed to introduce the idea of University, particularly in Engineering and at Cambridge. The age groups on the day ranged from year 8 to year 13 in UK schools. The young people attended a number of talks on University life, careers available and experience from those who came to Cambridge from care homes. They also undertook an interactive activity to lead them into thinking about Engineering." (Bryn Pickering)

The event took place at Murray Edwards College and was run by Maria Kettle, outreach officer for CUED.

The activity, which involved the design, construction and testing of a bridge structure made from paper and bolts, can be found here.
